Description
James Hautman established himself as one of the most successful contenders in the field of wildlife art competition in very short order. Born on April 23, 1964, Mr. Hautman, whose brother Robert has garnered several state duck stamp contest victories, credits his family with providing him with the dual interests of art and the outdoors that have shaped his career. In addition to his federal and state stamp designs, Mr. Hautman has released several limited edition prints and a series of commissioned paintings for the Northern States Power Company. He also designed the sponsor print for the Minnesota Waterfowl Association. His works have been exhibited at the Wildlife and Western Art Exhibition, the Minnesota Wildlife Heritage Foundation show, and the Michigan Wildlife Habitat Foundation Art Show. Mr. Hautman, whose hobbies include hockey and skiing, lives with his brother in Plymouth, Minnesota.

Black Bellied Whistling Ducks…Engraved by the Federal Bureau of Engraving from the original artwork. Multicolor printed. The stamp sold for twelve dollars and fifty cents. Postal records show 1,408,373.stamps sold. First day of sale was June 30, 1990.
