Description

Arthur G. Anderson was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, on December 10, 1935.  At age twelve, he began painting with a set of oils his uncle gave him.   Mr. Anderson studied art at the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire and also at the Art Institute School in St. Paul, Minnesota.  While working as a graphic artist, he continued to paint at home on evenings and weekends.  In 1983, he devoted himself full-time to wildlife art.

An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Anderson admits that he “hunts mostly with his camera.”  In addition to his duck stamp contest victories (winner of the 1987 Utah Duck Stamp), Mr. Anderson was the 1989 National Wild Turkey Federation Banquet print artist, the 1990 National Wild Turkey Federation Artist of the Year, and the 1990 Ducks Unlimited sponsor print artist for Wisconsin.  He was the winner of the 1990 National Wild Turkey Stamp contest and the 1990 Wisconsin Wild Turkey Stamp competition.  He lives with his family in Onalaska, Wisconsin, a town near La Crosse that overlooks the Mississippi and is close to a marsh habitat frequented by ducks and other waterfowl.

Redheads was printed on 100% acid-free rag stock. The separation negative maker was Graphic Arts Systems and the printer was Overland Printer.  The edition was 20,000 regular signed and numbered prints and 5,000 with 24 caret gold plated medallions.  The  The image size is 6-1/2″ x 9″.  The medallion is full struck 2 3/32″x1-5/16″

Redheads…Engraved by the Federal Bureau of Engraving from the original artwork. Printed in full color. The stamp sold for ten dollars. Postal records show 1,663,112 stamps sold. First day of sale was July 1, 1987.
